Benalla Splash Park
Splash parks in north-east Victoria, Australia

This splash park and playground on the banks of Lake Benalla is partially covered by shade sails, and fully covered by fun with a huge array of water cannons, fountains, jets, and overhead sprinklers, as well as a tipping bucket. Wandering down the path from Mair Street to the splash park, the large area covered by the combined splash park and playground suggests that this place is going to be fun. The main feature is a roaring tipping bucket in the middle of the splash pad, but with lots of sprinklers and jets to dash through and sit under.
Apart from dodging the tipping bucket, there are several water cannons that can be spun around to aim in different directions to add an interactive element to the splash pad. The splash pad has a garden theme, with the water features shaped and decorated into various insects and plants. The splash park is well designed with families in mind. This includes the availability of natural and artificial shade, close access to toilets and baby change facilities, and ample lawn area for spreading out your gear and having a base to return to for drinks and snacks.
For those who want a mix of activities, there is also a small playground on site and two rockclimbing structures, but I would be surprised if those areas remained dry if kids are moving back and forth between the splash park and these adjacent areas. Make sure the kids' hands and feet are dry before trying the rockclimbing or they could come a cropper.

When the kids have had enough of the splash park, or have outgrown it, the Benalla Aquatic Centre is located next door, with the outdoor pool visible from the splash park through a cyclone wire fence. A bike path runs beside the splash park around Lake Benalla, also taking in the local bmx track along the way.
