Hobart's Warmest Pools
Hobart, Tasmania, Australia

Where is Hobart's warmest pool for swimming? Which is the warmest pool near you? Below is a list of indoor public swimming pool temperatures across Hobart.
Hobart's Warmest Public Pool:
The winner of the title of warmest public pool in Hobart goes to...(drumroll please)... the hydrotherapy pool at Oceana Aquatic and Fitness in Mornington, which is maintained at a cosy 33.5 degrees celsius. This 11 metre long hydrotherapy pool, located right next to the lap pool, is about two lanes wide and up to 1.9 metres deep, so there is plenty of room to move around in, particularly up the deep end.
Entry to the hydrotherapy pool for casual visitors is not included in the entry price for a casual swim in the lap pool, so make sure you ask at the front desk for a "full casual swim" and not just a casual swim to get access to this pool. Casual swim access is restricted after school (3.30 pm to around 5 pm) because of learn to swim classes.
Indoor Pool VenueTemperature of Warmest Pool at Venue
Oceana Aquatic and Fitness (Mornington)33.5C   /  92F
Jody Harrison's Swim Central (New Town)32C   /  90F
Kingston Pool32C   /  90F
Hobart Aquatic Centre30.2C   /  86F
St. Michael's Collegiate Pool (Hobart)29.5C   /  85F
Clarence Aquatic Centre (Montagu Bay)28C   /  82F
Friends Health and Fitness (North Hobart)27.5C   /  82F

In the list of warmest pools above I have only included pools in which you can actually swim (as opposed to just bathing) and that are designated for active recreation by the venue. This excludes spas, toddler pools and shallow leisure pools. Technically there is a warmer hydrotherapy pool than the one at Oceana, at Clarence Joint Therapy in Howrah, which has an 11 metre long hydrotherapy pool that operates at 35-36 degrees celsius.
I have not included this pool in the table above because it is intended for rehabilitation and recovery rather than swimming, and does not have an adjoining lap pool like Oceana. The operators advise that you can visit casually (but book ahead) for independent aquatic exercise, and this can include some swimming, so keep this pool in mind if you want super-warm water for aquatic exercise or rehab.
Hobart's Warmest Lap Pool:
The St. Michael's Collegiate Pool takes out the title of warmest lap pool in Hobart. The 25 metre lap pool is operated at 29.5 degrees, which is marginally warmer than the other lap pools around town. You need to wear a swimming cap to swim in this pool and the pool is shared with learn to swim classes. The monthly newsletter on the pool's website lists the times on each day of the month when lanes are available for casual lap swimming.

The water temperatures for lap pools in the table below applies only to those indoor public pools that have a minimum length of 25 metres or, if it was the longest pool at the venue (and hence designated for lap swimming), a minimum length of 20 metres. Jody Harrison's Swim Central and the Kingston Pool were both under 20 metres in length and therefore are not included in the list of warmest lap pools.

If you are planning to visit these pools, beware of clashes with classes, particularly after school swimming lessons. Some hydrotherapy pools are also booked by health care providers. If you are not sure when a pool is free, check out the pool timetables on the venue's website or ring ahead to save yourself the disappointment.

To put the temperatures below in context, the water in San Francisco Bay (considered too cold for potential escapees from Alcatraz to swim in) is 12-16 degrees and the water at Constitution Dock ranges from 13 degrees in winter to 16 degrees in summer.
Your internal body temperature is around 37 degrees. Most hot spas in public pools are 36 degrees or above.
