Bright Splash Park
Splash parks in north-east Victoria, Australia

The Bright Splash Park is located along the bank of the Ovens River in Centenary Park, close to the Bright town centre. This is a great addition to this already popular park and is a huge improvement on the old toddler pool that used to occupy the site. The water play area has several levels separated by shallow steps and includes several geizers, sprinklers, water cannons, spraying hoops, and a giant tipping bucket on the top level. The separation of the water features is well designed here, with no danger of being swamped by the tipping bucket if you have younger kids who only want to play with the gentle gurglers and sprinklers on the lower level. To operate the water features, look out for the small chrome buttons on the green square poles.

There is ample dry seating around the wet zone for adults to supervise their children and place their towels, and the towering elms provide shade on at least some seats across much of the day.
The main hazard here is the steep drop off on the eastern side of the play area, where steep steps head down to the adjacent Morses Creek. The position of the seating creates a barrier here for children, but there are still a few gaps where kids can run away towards the creek.

Under supervision, the adjacent Morses Creek can also be a water play option for kids. This stream is a wide, shallow creek with a river bed full of rounded stones. The creek can often dry up in the summer time, so it's probably only an option on hot days in late spring or early summer or after wet weather in the months thereafter.

There is always plenty going on in Centennial Park. It's a popular place for locals and tourists to go for a stroll or stop for a picnic and bbq. It is also a launching point for canoe and kayak adventures along the Ovens River, as well as housing two water slides for older kids.

Getting there: To get to Bright, head along the Hume Freeway (M31) then follow the turn offs to the Great Alpine Road (B500) from Wangaratta or via the Snow Road (C522) south of Wangaratta. At Bright, drive through town to Riverside Drive via Howitt Lane or go across the bridge to Mountbatten Avenue.
There is parking available in both Riverside Drive and Mountbatten Avenue. The splash park is on the western side of Morses Creek.
General facilities: Toilets, seats and park benches, picnic tables (some sheltered), sheltered electric bbqs, drinking fountain, rubbish bins, lawn areas.
Baby change facilities: No
Sun shade: Shade available under the elm trees and the sheltered picnic tables. The splash park will be in partial shade at some times of the day and year.
Entrance fee: None
Opening times: Always open
Wheelchair access: Yes, noting that there are steps between each level of the splash park
Prohibitions: No running, no pushing, no jumping, no skateboards, no glass, no smoking. All children under 10 years old must be under active adult supervision of a person 16 years or older.

Nearby attractions: Porepunkah river pool, 7 km to the north-west.
