Where did I stay when visiting St Georges Lake in Creswick for a swim? How did I travel to this former water supply reservoir, not far outside Ballarat?

Accommodation close to St Georges Lake:
St Georges Lake lies beyond the edge of town in a largely forested area covered by pine plantations. Accommodation close to the lake includes the 1-2 person villas at
Eastern Hill
on the aptly named St Georges Lake Road, which runs behind St Georges Lake. This is not the main entrance to the lake, which is on the opposite side, but there is a short walking track that runs down
through the pine trees to the spillway from St Georges Lake Road. You can usually walk across the spillway by foot along a concrete path (unless the dam is spilling, which rarely occurs in summer).
On my visit this track was popular with people from town walking their dogs up to the lake.
Accommodation in the closest town (Creswick):
St Georges Lake is around 2 km south east of the Creswick town centre. If you would prefer to stay closer to supermarkets, cafes, shops and other amenities, two highly rated options that are either on or
adjacent to the main street in town are the 1 bedroom unit at the
Bohemian Art Studio.
or rooms for 2-4 people at
Odessa at Leavers Hotel.

Caravan and camping accommodation for St Georges Lake:
Camping is not permitted at St Georges Lake. There are a range of cabin, caravan and camping options at the
Creswick Holiday Park
at the northern end of Creswick. The park has lots of sites with good shade, a camp kitchen and a dump point, and is pet friendly
if you are coming to St Georges Lake with your dog. There is no pool at the Creswick Holiday Park, but that does not really matter, because the holiday park is right next to one of my
favourite swimming holes.

Where I stayed
I have stayed at a few different places in Ballarat when visiting the region and have also visited on a day trip from Melbourne many times. My stays in Ballarat include the
Victoriana Motor Inn and the
Begiona City Motor Inn, both of which are fairly basic but clean, reliable and relatively affordable
accommodation options.

you enjoy your stay here.
