Swimming Hole Heaven in Victoria

Where is the closest accommodation to St Georges Lake in Creswick? Here are my nearby camping, homestay, and hotel suggestions and their distance to this swim. All distances below are by road to the nearest access point around the lake. Above: St Georges Lake on the outskirts of Creswick (Order this image) St Georges Lake lies beyond the edge of town in a largely forested area covered by pine plantations. Accommodation close to the lake includes Eastern Hill on the aptly named St Georges Lake Road, which runs behind St Georges Lake. This is not the main entrance to the lake, which is on the opposite side, but there is a short walking track that runs down through the pine trees to the spillway from St Georges Lake Road. You can usually walk across the spillway by foot along a concrete path (unless the dam is spilling, which rarely occurs in summer). On my visit this track was popular with people from town walking their dogs up to the lake.

There are a range of cabin, caravan and camping options at the Creswick Holiday Park at the northern end of Creswick. The park has lots of sites with good shade, a camp kitchen and a dump point, and is pet friendly if you are coming to St Georges Lake with your dog. There is no pool at the Creswick Holiday Park, but that does not really matter, because the holiday park is right next to one of my favourite swimming holes.
