For your guide to the best swimming in the outdoors, start your search here at Swimming Hole Heaven
®. Currently available for Australia, Fiji and New Zealand.
As a hydrologist and swimming enthusiast I have travelled the world searching for the best swimming spots.
This quest began with the guide to
Freshwater Swimming Holes in Victoria
in my home State in Australia, which was first published in 2004, and now also includes my guide to
Australia's Swimming Hole Hotspots, first
published in 2024.

The online guide is slowly expanding and now covers over 170 swimming spots in three countries, plus over 20 free splash parks, and includes dozens of video guides.
Unlike other swimming hole lists, this site involves all primary research, with all swimming holes personally vetted by me,
by getting into the water.
Select A Country For Your Swim:
Click on each country below to find your next swimming trip or holiday destination,
or alternatively
search by map or by my
list of lists. Swim safe, have fun and remember that no matter how cold the
water is, it's alright once you're in!
This is my compilation of well over 150 swimming holes across Australia that I have visited, swum in (where legal to do so) and reviewed. If you are heading around
the country or just looking for a swim close to home, you will want to bookmark these. If you are not sure where to start, go straight to the book of
swimming hotspots.
Fiji is well known for its beaches and coral islands, but its lesser known inland swimming holes offer some unique
experiences that will add variety to your holiday. Here are two freshwater swimming spots on the main
island, including a hot spring and a waterfall…
New Zealand offers some spectacular summer swims, as well as several hot springs for swimming in the outdoors all year round.
It is one of the few places in the world with a myriad of pristine streams with excellent water
quality for swimming…
Each swimming spot includes a link to
swimming safety information. Please make sure you
read that information before you head out, particularly if you are an inexperienced swimmer. Some of my suggested
swimming hole equipment could make your bush swims safer and more enjoyable.

I'm always interested in hearing about and visiting new swimming holes around the world, so feel free to share them
with me and
suggest a swim.
You can find all of the waterfalls that I have visited during my search for swimming holes on my companion website
Waterfall Seasons - The Waterfall Guide. You can swim at some of them, but most are
just for viewing and admiring. Great for a day trip when it's too chilly to get into the water or you just want to stay dry.
