Yamba Ocean Pool
Yamba, New South Wales

Yamba Ocean Pool is a quaint little lap pool tucked in neatly at the base of the headland at the southern end Yamba Main Beach. This 5 lane, 30 metre pool offers great views over the side wall of the pool of the waves rolling onto main beach and the Pacific Ocean beyond. From the main beach car park on Queen St, walk down the steep path to the pool, roughly 80 metres away. There are step ladders at several locations around the pool, with the water around a metre deep at the shallow end. I could see a fine layer of sand over the fairly clean concrete pool base.
A concourse surrounds the pool, with a little bit of lawn area and a picnic table up above the pool, both of which would be a great place to relax and watch surfers plying their craft in the ocean, in between dips in the pool. There is also a small, shallow basin behind the concourse at the ocean end of the pool, which looks like it might be a toddlers pool, but there was no water in it on my visit. I would like to be able to say more about this swim, but unfortunately on my visit the pool was closed for repairs. This was due to a severe storm which had been powerful enough to dislodge one of the concrete slabs at the end of the pool, lift it, rotate it 90 degrees, and leave it cantilevered half in and half out of the pool.
It was in stark contrast to the calm conditions I saw, with not even a ripple on the glass-like surface of the pool. Swimming at Yamba Ocean Pool Above: The concrete slab dislodged in a storm at Yamba Ocean Pool (Order this image)

I do not know if there were wheelchair accessible toilets.
Managing authority: Clarence Valley Council
Nearby attractions: Angourie Blue Pool and Angourie Green Pool in Angourie, 7 km to the south.
Before you head out, make sure to read the swimming safety information. Specific to this site, the managing authority warns that there can be large waves, high surf, slippery rocks, shallow water, slippery surfaces, uneven ground. The sign also includes a warning of a "swimming pool" that is probably targetted at parents of toddlers, because there is no fence around the pool.
