According to
swimming hole guide book author and long-term Melbourne resident Brad Neal, the best swimming hole in the suburbs of Melbourne is...
Lysterfield Lake. The lake is located in Lysterfield Park on the eastern outskirts of Melbourne. Once
surrounded by bush and hobby farms, the park is gradually being surrounded by housing estates expanding north from Narre Warren and Dandenong.

When the quality of water in the lake is good, as it is most of the time, I believe that this is the best outdoor swimming venue in suburban Melbourne.
It has two swimming beaches with gradual entry close to the shore that is suitable for kids, and a wide
expanse of water that also caters for long distance swimmers who are tired of doing tumbleturns in the local pool.
The lake is suitable for families, with plenty of activities on offer including picnics, barbecues, mountain bike
riding, canoeing, windsurfing and any ball games you can play on a big lawn.
