Seven Creeks Park, EuroaSwimming Hole Heaven in Victoria

The weir across Seven Creeks at Euroa formed the pre-Olympic swimming pool for the town. Pre-Olympic swimming pools in Victoria are those
that were replaced by standard 8-lane, chlorinated 50 metre Olympic swimming pools in the swimming pool funding spree leading up to
the 1956 Melbourne Olympics. The weir is located in Seven Creeks Park, south-east of the town centre.

The concrete steps provide easy entry to the water and give you a place to dry off cleanly after your swim. The water is quite murky here and the depth is variable, so the local shire advises against diving.
The popularity of this swimming spot declined rapidly after the Olympic pool was built around the corner in Bury St. Seven Creeks Park is still however a great place by the water for a walk along the heritage trail or a picnic.
A pedestrian bridge runs directly over the weir wall if you want to cross the river to the lawns on the other side.
The park also hosts the Australian National Show and Shine car exhibition in October each year.
This swimming hole did not make it into my top 50 in Victoria. The main reason being the high sediment load in the water that gives it a muddy brown colour and makes it impossible to see the bottom. One of my favourite swimming holes nearby (within 20 km of Euroa) did make it into the top 50, so if you are looking for a swimming hole in this area in clearer water, grab a copy of the guide to Freshwater Swimming Holes in Victoria.

"I swam in this pool from 1952 to 57. In late spring each year the question was 'are the planks in yet?!' I would ride past each day to check and spread the word. I spent many hours swimming 20 or 30 plus laps, across and back, and from end to end, or bridge to bridge. I also did the foolish dives off Burtons Bridge, after all the silt that came down stream and built up, reducing the safe depth, making it rather risky. I did my swimming medals there. Euroa Higher Elementary School swimming sports were held there, between the 4 Houses: Faithful, Furlong, Kirkland and one other." - A. McGeachy (nee Lightfoot), Victoria, Australia 16/7/2023
"I grew up in Euroa in the late 40s to early 50s. We simply lived in the Seven Creeks swimming hole once the council put the planks in (under the footbridge). All of us local kids lived wonderful free lives especially through summer. There was a duck pond section boarded up for beginners. Also a diving board as well as jumping and diving off the foot bridge. I got my swimming certificates there and of course our school held their sports there. Great memories.
