Tocumwal Splashpark
Tocumwal, NSW

This aeroplane-themed splash park has its own cockpit frame, overhead wings and propellers, and a tipping bucket payload of water coming out of the bomb bay. The splash park is a tribute to the special role of the Tocumwal Aerodrome during World War II. There are plenty of water features here in what is a fairly large splash park. These include the tipping bucket, two sets of fine spray rings in series to walk through, water cannons, a meandering stream with sluice gates, and different types of fountains. The angled bomb sprinklers give the scene an added sense of movement and realism.
The variety of water features on offer means that kids can find different areas to play in, rather than being crowded all in one part of the splash park. All of the splash pad is covered in shade cloth. Tocumwal Splashpark Above: The aeroplane-themed splash park at Tocumwal (Order this image)

To activate the water features, press one of the buttons on the waist high red and blue poles. Unfortunately, even though I visited during the designated operating hours during the season when the water park is advertised as operating, the buttons were unresponsive on my visit, leaving me to wander through a dry splash park. A group of high school kids then descended on the park and started using it as a climbing frame. Tocumwal Splashpark Above: The hand-operated sluice gates at Tocumwal splash park (Order this image)

Apart from the disappointment of not seeing the water features in action, I could see that the splash park is well set up for a day of enjoyment. For parents, you can get an elevated view of the park by sitting on the grass next to the meandering stream. Reading about the history of the Liberation Bombers on the information boards on site, including the role of the aerodrome, was a bonus for adults. I would also encourage anyone visiting to take a short walk along the bike and walking track that runs into town to see the giant Murray cod.
